Run a Marketplace Image Preflight Before You Spend on Ads

Paid traffic amplifies whatever is already in the listing. If the hero image is soft after compression, cropped too tight on mobile, or still carrying camera metadata, every click pays to show a weaker first impression.

A short preflight prevents that. Start with EXIF removal so location and device tags never reach a public CDN. Next, compress with a sample set that includes fine text, dark packaging, and one transparent asset when relevant. Then resize with the destination preset — Amazon main image, Shopify PDP, TikTok cover — instead of a generic square. Convert to WebP where the channel accepts it, and keep a JPEG fallback when compatibility matters.

Only after those steps should you add a watermark, and only if brand policy requires it. Watermark early and you will recompress text and edges twice. Watermark last and you keep one clean master for every channel.

Close the loop with a two-minute visual check at 100 percent zoom on the five hardest frames. If those pass, the rest of the batch is usually safe to publish. GetPicTools is built for exactly this order: strip, compress, resize, convert, optional watermark — in the browser, in batch, without turning each SKU into a desktop project.

Teams that adopt the preflight cut relaunches caused by rejected dimensions, oversized files, and unreadable ingredient text. That is cheaper than discovering the same defects after ad spend starts.
