Supplier image folders are rarely ready to publish. One folder may contain original camera files, screenshots from a catalog, square crops, and already-compressed JPEGs with no clue which file came first. Before editing anything, make a read-only copy of the delivery and create a simple inventory with filename, dimensions, format, and file size.
Start by separating originals from derivatives. The largest file is not automatically the original, but dimensions, EXIF fields, and visible compression usually tell the story. Put uncertain files in a review folder instead of deleting them. When two images show the same angle, compare labels, reflections, and small product details at 100 percent. A sharper image of the wrong product revision is worse than a slightly softer image of the item actually being sold.
Next, decide on one catalog master for every useful angle. Correct rotation and color only on those masters. Do not crop the master to a marketplace ratio; make platform-specific copies later. This keeps a clean source for future square, portrait, and wide layouts. Record any manual color adjustment, especially when packaging or fabric color is part of the buying decision.
Only after the masters are settled should you batch rename, resize, convert, and strip unnecessary metadata. Review the first three exports before processing the entire folder. Check the product edge, fine texture, printed text, and transparent areas. If those survive the test export, the same settings are usually safe for the rest of that supplier batch.
