I have been doing batch watermarking for three years, but no one tells you these five tips

Adding a watermark to product images seems simple—choose a font, add your brand name, adjust the transparency, and you’re done. But if you have actually batch-processed hundreds of product images, you will know that there are many details that determine whether the watermark "protects" or "destroys" the image.

The first tip: don’t put the watermark on the main body of the product. This sentence sounds like nonsense, but it is difficult to control the watermark position of each image during batch processing. If you use fixed coordinates (for example, the lower right corner is 50px from the edge) and change the picture to a different composition, the watermark may just cover the key details of the product. A better approach is to use intelligent positioning: let the tool identify the main area of the product, and the watermark is always placed in the blank area outside the main body.

The watermark function of GetPicTools uses percentage positioning and intelligent avoidance algorithms. You set the watermark in the lower right corner, and it will automatically detect whether there is a product body in that area, and if so, move it to the side.

The second tip: Transparency is not set casually. I have seen a seller set the watermark transparency to 15%. As a result, someone online used a watermark removal AI tool to completely remove the watermark without even a trace. A watermark that is too light is useless, but a watermark that is too dark affects the look and feel. My own experience: a white watermark with 15% to 25% transparency is the balance point on most product images. Product images with dark backgrounds can use black watermarks with 10% to 15% transparency. The translucent watermark also has another advantage: it blends into the image. If the watermark removal tool is forcibly removed, it will leave obvious blurred patches in place, which will increase the difficulty of stealing the image.

The third tip: The bigger the watermark, the better. Some sellers like to make a huge diagonal watermark covering the entire picture. The probability of the picture being stolen is indeed low, but it will also be uncomfortable for normal users. I recommend that the watermark area should not exceed 5% of the total area of the image. If you are worried about theft, you can use repeated tiles of small watermarks (tile mode) with a larger spacing, so that it looks like a texture rather than a crude covering.

The fourth tip: Mixing text watermarks and graphic watermarks works better. Pure text watermarks are easy to be filled and removed by PS's content recognition. Pure logo watermarks are better to a certain extent, but they are not omnipotent. Combine the two: add a small logo icon to a line of text, use the brand name for the text, and place the logo in front of the text. This combination is more difficult for AI watermark removal tools to handle because it removes two different types of elements: text and graphics at the same time.

The fifth tip: Back up the original images before adding watermarks in batches. I made this mistake - I added watermarks directly to the only original image in batches. After saving, I found that the watermark was in the wrong position, but the original image was gone. The current process is: first copy all original images to an "original" folder, and output the watermarked version to another "output" folder. The original file will never move. If you need to adjust the watermark parameters, you can re-export it from the original image.

If you sell on multiple platforms, the watermarking strategy can also be different. Although Amazon prohibits adding watermarks to main images, you can add watermarks to auxiliary images and A+ page images. Platforms such as eBay and Etsy have no clear restrictions on watermarks. Independent stations can be added at will. My suggestion is: don’t add a watermark to the main image, add a light watermark to the auxiliary image, and add a slightly more obvious watermark to the independent website.
