A list of image specifications for different platforms has been compiled.

When I was working on GetPicTools, one of my biggest feelings was that the image specifications on different platforms were too fragmented. Each platform has its own size requirements, format restrictions, file size limits, and those unspoken "unspoken rules" that everyone knows to abide by. I spent countless hours checking documentation, reading forums, and talking to sellers to compile this list.

Amazon’s main image requires a pure white background RGB 255, 255, 255, which is written into the rules. But what many people don’t know is that the main image cannot have any text, logo, watermark, or even a border. If you make an image with a brand corner as the main image, there is a high probability that it will be removed from Amazon. In addition, the main image should be at least 1000 pixels, 2000×2000 is recommended, and the maximum should not exceed 10,000 pixels. The file format is JPEG, TIFF and GIF are also accepted, but PNG is not.

Amazon’s supplementary images and A+ content are much more relaxed. Auxiliary pictures can show product usage scenarios, size comparisons, packaging contents, and can be added with text descriptions. The image specifications for A+ pages (formerly EBC) are another set: 970×300 or 970×600 for banner images, and 300×300 for module images.

On the Shopify side, it is your own store, and the rules are not as strict as Amazon. However, Shopify officially recommends that product images use 2048×2048 pixels in JPEG or WebP format, and the file size should be controlled within 500KB. Shopify themes usually do responsive scaling for you automatically, so you only need to upload a large image without having to cut it into a bunch of different sizes yourself.

eBay’s requirements are simpler: the main image must be at least 500 pixels (1600 pixels recommended), and the background does not need to be pure white, but no borders, text, or watermarks can be added. eBay accepts JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and TIFF formats. It is worth noting that if eBay's image URL contains special characters, it may cause display problems. Use simple letters and hyphens in the file name to avoid pitfalls.

Etsy’s handmade and vintage offerings allow for a more lifestyle style of photography, without forcing a pure white background. However, Etsy recommends that the main image be composed horizontally (4:3 or 3:2), at least 1000 pixels wide, and either JPEG or PNG is acceptable. Etsy’s thumbnails are cut into squares, so it’s best to center the main body of your main image, otherwise you may only see one corner of the product in the thumbnail.

TikTok Shop is a new battlefield, and many people ignore its picture rules. TikTok Shop requires the main image to be 1:1 square, at least 800×800 pixels, JPEG or PNG, and the background is preferably a solid color but not mandatory white. This platform encourages life-like and scene-based pictures, which are consistent with its overall content. If you move the pure white background product pictures like Amazon’s, they will look abrupt.

Let’s talk about a cross-platform technique: when making pictures, use the largest size requirement (usually Amazon’s 2000×2000), and pictures on other platforms should be scaled down from this large picture. The advantage of this is that you only need to maintain a set of original images, and leave the adaptation to the tool. Select the corresponding platform preset in GetPicTools and export the sizes and formats required by all platforms at once.

It is also recommended to unify the file naming. My habit is: brand abbreviation-product name-purpose-size. For example, "GT-stainless-bottle-main-2000.jpg", "GT-stainless-bottle-lifestyle-2000.jpg". In this way, you can find the pictures you need at a glance in the folder, and there will be no confusion when uploading in batches.

If you sell on multiple platforms at the same time, the complexity of image management is multiplicative, not additive. A systematic set of specifications and naming rules is more important than any tool.
